From the fact that people are very different it follows that, if we treat them equally, the result must be inequality in their actual position, and that the only way to place them in an equal position would be to treat them differently. Equality before the law and material equality are therefore not only different but are in conflict with each other; and we can achieve either one or the other, but not both at the same time

A Tale of Two Groups

From the Examiner.com (Spokane) comes this comparison: between Tea Party protesters and protests organized by left-wing activists. I am copying much of the article because, well, it’s such a stark comparison. I wish I had come up with this.

Enjoy,

This is a story of two protests I attended. Both took place on the Boston Common on beautiful days, both were part of larger nationwide events, but there were some differences.

One protest took place in the middle of the week a Wednesday, a work day.
The other on a Saturday afternoon when many more people have a day off.

One group consisted of a large majority of working class people.
The other group consisted on a large majority of activists and college students.

One group saluted troops, bringing a Gold Star Mother on stage.
The other wrapped people in trash bags representing body bags and protested in front of a military recruitment center.

One group remained in place listening to speeches and watching performances.
The other group marched through the streets with the police closing roads to traffic to let them pass.

One group mentioned the founding fathers, people such as James Otis and Sam Adams.
The other group marched past their gravestones without notice

One group objected to socialism and on the whole objected to President Obama “Socialist” positions.
The other group openly embraced socialism and on the whole objected to President Obama “Capitalist” positions.

Both groups were mentioned by the media one was dismissed as racists, whose protests nationwide might encourage violence.
The other group was mentioned as part of a nationwide nonviolent expression of popular will although  in some cities actual violence took place.

One group protested a new law that was overwhelmingly opposed by the American People.
The other group opposed a new law that is overwhelmingly supported by the American People.

The biggest difference between the two groups?

The Tea Party protesters drew 10,000 people to Boston on a
weekday and will be a force in the upcoming elections nationally.

… and there’s more. Please consider reading the whole article.

GM Loan Repayment: Treasury Dept Misleads the Public

The New York Times reports that the GM loan repayment was, well, not a repayment. The folks at Reason TV explain it really well.
