Remember the
Misery Index? The MI is simply the sum of the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. Here is the chart of the Misery Index beginning with George Bush taking office in January, 2001.
When George W. Bush assumed office in 2001, the Tech Bubble had burst nine months previously in March, 2000 and unemployment was at 4.2% and rising. In 2003, a year after the Democrats ill-advised tax-rebate (a one time give away to citizens many of whom paid no taxes) in the face of 6.3% unemployment, President Bush and the Republican Congress enacted the
2003 tax relief and reconciliation act. True to their prediction, a real tax cut stemmed the rise in unemployment turning it into a steady 3 year decline. The Misery Index reached a low not seen since the late 1953.
Look what happened in 2007 after the American public fell for the demagoguery of the American left and gave control of both houses of congress to the Democrats. You want hockey sticks? Look what the Democrat congress did to the unemployment rate beginning within 9 months of assuming control in 2007. What's worse, look what what's happened to the Misery Index since Obama took office just 11 months ago. With the Democrats in control of all three houses of congress, unemployment has skyrocketed, inflation has reasserted itself, and the Misery Index is in a vertical climb.
Oh, yeah, we're still at war and Iran has become, for all intents and purposes, a nuclear threat (if not a power).
